Success for all Students

High Expectations

All children are supported to reach their full potential. We pursue excellence, we offer innovative and inspiring learning programs, and we support each other academically and socially.

Students at Sorrento Primary School seek to achieve academic excellence through comprehensive, creative, challenging and responsive learning programs.

Staff analyse and use student performance data to inform teaching and learning decisions. They use a collaborative approach to develop, implement and monitor interventions, and are supported with ongoing professional learning to ensure students receive best practice educational delivery.

Remediation Programs

Student who require additional support beyond what is provided in everyday classroom setting are provided with the opportunity to participate in a range of remediation programs in literacy and numeracy.

These programs are research and evidence-based, with staff trained explicitly to deliver them. These programs are designed to accelerate learning, and target filling in the gaps of prior learning that may have been missed, or not understood at the time.

Students are selected for these programs based on a range of factors – including formative or summative assessments and teacher judgement.

Extension Programs

Student who require additional support beyond what is provided in everyday classroom setting are provided with the opportunity to participate in a range of extension programs in literacy and numeracy.

These short-burst extension sessions in Mathematics (We Love Pi) and English (Scribe Tribe) are designed to challenge, inspire, and explicitly teach higher order thinking skills and problem solving. Across the course of the year, these sessions are run for all year levels in targeted bursts. The sessions are tailored specifically to extend students, and are conducted by experienced teachers.

Students are selected for these programs based on a range of factors – including formative or summative assessments and teacher judgement.
