Principal's Message

Every child matters every day

May I extend to you and your child a very warm welcome to Sorrento Primary, an Independent Public School. I feel privileged and honoured to be the newly appointed principal. Sorrento Primary School is a strong and vibrant school community that pursues excellence in teaching and learning whilst nurturing the social and emotional needs of students to support them to become confident and resilient individuals.

Our motto “Be True” encompasses:

  • Pursuing excellence
  • Having mutual respect for one another
  • Supporting each other with care and consideration
  • Valuing open and honest communication
  • Being innovative and inspiring

We pride ourselves in providing a school with a warm, safe and happy environment where students feel welcome and are cared for. Our aim is to provide opportunities that extend and challenge every student to exceed their potential and achieve personal, social and academic success.

Sorrento Primary School has a dedicated staff who strive for high standards in teaching and learning by continually improving their own professional knowledge and expertise to ensure students are provided with a high quality education. Our passion for excellence is a driving force each and every day. We focus on providing a school that is collaborative, inclusive and maintaining whole school approaches to engage and improve student learning.

Great schools are a shared responsibility and we are fortunate at Sorrento Primary School to have a dynamic and vibrant school where there is strong community, parent and family involvement. I encourage parents and care givers to be involved in the life of the school. We have a highly motivated and active P&C Association whose contributions benefit our students. Becoming active in the school’s P&C committee is an excellent way to increase involvement and to work as a team to support and encourage children’s learning and development. Furthermore, our involvement in the Duncraig Network extends our partnership in the community, providing for seamless and smoother transitions for our students.

Working in partnership with you for your child’s education is paramount to achieving the success we pursue.

I invite prospective parents and students to visit our school and look forward to working closely with you.

School Song

This is our school, where we work and play.
This is our school, we try our best each day.
Sorrento, a place by the sea,
Sorrento belongs to me.

Be happy in all that you do,
Be friendly, be kind, be true.
True to self, true to school,
True to life’s Golden Rule,
Helping others the whole day through.

This is our school, where we work and play.
This is our school, we try our best each day.
Sorrento a place by the sea.
Sorrento belongs to me.

Recorded by Mrs Carter, Mrs Clark and the 2014 School Choir

School Creed

As I start this day,

School Planning

As an Independent Public School, Sorrento Primary School plans on a three-year cycle via a Business Plan.

Independent reviews are undertaken to provide assurance to the school and its community, the Director General of Education, and the Minister for Education on the extent to which the school has met its commitments. Our Annual Reports provide more regular feedback about targets and initiatives within the school.

School Handbooks and Policies

Two-way communication is a critical factor in the partnership between parents and the school. Where a partnership exists, it is easier for parents to feel confident about the teaching and learning taking place in the classroom and to solve problems.

Teachers are responsible for the more formal aspects of children’s learning, and successful teaching builds on the home experiences of the child. This is most effective where there is an active partnership with parents.

The policies below will assist families to understand school procedures and enhance communication between home and school.
