Our School
Principal's Message
Every child matters every day
May I extend to you and your child a very warm welcome to Sorrento Primary, an Independent Public School.
I feel privileged and honoured to be a part of this strong and vibrant school community - a community that pursues excellence in teaching and learning whilst nurturing the social and emotional needs of students to support them to become confident and resilient individuals.

We pride ourselves in providing a school with a warm, safe and happy environment where students feel welcome and are cared for. Our aim is to provide opportunities that extend and challenge every student to exceed their potential and achieve personal, social and academic success.
Our motto “Be True” encompasses:
- Pursuing excellence
- Having mutual respect for one another
- Supporting each other with care and consideration
- Valuing open and honest communication
- Being innovative and inspiring
Sorrento Primary School has a dedicated staff who strive for high standards in teaching and learning by continually improving their own professional knowledge and expertise to ensure students are provided with a high quality education. Our passion for excellence is a driving force each and every day. We focus on providing a school that is collaborative, inclusive and maintaining whole school approaches to engage and improve student learning.
Great schools are a shared responsibility and we are fortunate at Sorrento Primary School to have a dynamic and vibrant school where there is strong community, parent and family involvement. I encourage parents and care givers to be involved in the life of the school. We have a highly motivated and active P&C Association whose contributions benefit our students. Becoming active in the school’s P&C committee is an excellent way to increase involvement and to work as a team to support and encourage children’s learning and development. Furthermore, our involvement in the Duncraig Network extends our partnership in the community, providing for seamless and smoother transitions for our students.
Working in partnership with you for your child’s education is paramount to achieving the success we pursue.
I invite prospective parents and students to visit our school and look forward to working closely with you.

In addition to students from residences within our local catchment area, the school attracts students from surrounding suburbs.
Features and Facilities
Sorrento Primary School has undergone a replenishing facelift in recent years, resulting in vibrant, engaging learning areas for students. All buildings are air-conditioned with computers, wired and wireless internet connection and interactive whiteboards. The school is furthering its investment in technology and life-long learning through the implementation of its iPad programs.
In the school grounds we have two basketball courts, an oval and dedicated Kindergarten and PrePrimary play area, and two dedicated nature play areas. The school grounds are beautifully maintained by our thoughtful and diligent gardener.
Sorrento Primary School has a strong relationship with the community and a high level of cooperation is evident. Its ethos is characterised by its pastoral care, accepted dress code, a cooperative and responsible student body and by committed staff and parents.

School Guidelines
Two-way communication is a critical factor in the partnership between parents and the school. Where a partnership exists, it is easier for parents to feel confident about the teaching and learning taking place in the classroom, and to solve problems.
Teachers are responsible for the more formal aspects of children's learning, and successful teaching builds on the home experiences of the child. This is most effective where there is an active partnership with parents.
The guidelines below will assist families to understand school procedures and enhance communication between home and school.
